What is gneisenau ship?

Gneisenau was a German battleship of the Kriegsmarine, named after August Neidhardt von Gneisenau, a Prussian field marshal. She was commissioned in 1938 and was one of the two ships of the Scharnhorst class, along with her sister ship, Scharnhorst.

Gneisenau was 234.9 meters long and had a displacement of 32,100 tonnes. She was armed with nine 28 cm guns, twelve 15 cm guns, and seventeen 10.5 cm guns, as well as an array of anti-aircraft guns and torpedoes.

She was involved in several naval battles during World War II, including the Battle of Denmark Strait in which the British battleship, HMS Hood, was sunk. Gneisenau was damaged during the battle and was put into dry dock for repairs. During this time, she was heavily bombed by British aircraft and was eventually scuttled by her crew to prevent capture by the enemy.

Today, the remains of Gneisenau lie at the bottom of Kiel Bay in Germany, and parts of her wreckage can still be seen by divers.
